Electrical Services for Portland Homes
Clear scopes, written estimates, and code-compliant work. Here's exactly what we do and what it typically costs.
Electrical Panel Upgrades
From $1,800
If your home still runs on a 100-amp panel — or a fuse box older than your mortgage — you're probably tripping breakers every time the microwave and the space heater run together. A 200-amp service gives you the headroom for an EV charger, a heat pump, a hot tub, or a finished basement without rationing power.
We handle the entire job end to end: pulling the permit with the city or county, coordinating the brief power shutoff with PGE, swapping the panel and grounding it to current code, and labeling every circuit so you actually know what's what. Most upgrades are finished in a single day.
We'll also flag anything the inspector will catch — double-tapped breakers, undersized wire, missing AFCI or GFCI protection — and quote it upfront, so there are no surprises when the inspection happens.
Do I really need 200 amps?
If you're adding an EV charger, electric heating, or a major appliance, almost certainly. For a small home with gas heat and no big plans, 150A may be plenty — we'll tell you honestly rather than upsell you.
How long will my power be off?
Usually two to four hours. We schedule the PGE disconnect in advance and work efficiently, so you're back up the same day, often before dinner.
Who pulls the permit?
We do. The permit and the inspection are included in your estimate, and we hand you the signed-off paperwork for your records and any future home sale.
EV Charger Installation
From $800
A standard wall outlet (Level 1) adds about four miles of range an hour — fine for a plug-in hybrid, painful for an EV you actually drive. A Level 2 charger on a dedicated 240-volt circuit charges most cars from empty to full overnight, so you wake up to a topped-off battery every morning.
We install Tesla Wall Connectors, ChargePoint, and universal J1772 and NACS units, sized to your car and your panel. If your panel doesn't have the spare capacity, we'll tell you before we start and bundle the upgrade into one clean, permitted job.
Most installs take half a day: a tidy conduit run from your panel to the garage or driveway, a dedicated breaker, and a quick test before we hand it over. We'll also point you to current Oregon and Energy Trust rebates that can knock real money off the total.
Can you install a charger if my panel is full?
Yes — we either add a subpanel, fit a load-management device, or roll it into a panel upgrade. We'll walk you through the most cost-effective path for your home.
Are there rebates in Oregon?
Often, yes. Energy Trust of Oregon and some utility programs offer EV-charger and electrical-upgrade incentives. We'll point you to what's currently available and provide the documentation you need to claim it.
Which chargers do you install?
Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint Home Flex, Grizzl-E, and any universal J1772 or NACS unit. Bought your own? We'll install it. Not sure what to buy? We'll recommend the right one for your car.
Permitted. Inspected. Signed off.
Whole-Home Rewiring
From $4,500 per project
Knob-and-tube and early cloth-wrapped wiring were fine in 1925 — but a century of brittle insulation, no ground, and well-meaning DIY splices adds up to a real fire risk. Many insurers now refuse to cover homes that still have it, and some won't write a policy at all until it's gone.
We rewire older Portland homes room by room with modern grounded circuits, AFCI and GFCI protection, and proper junction boxes. Our crews fish wire through walls and ceilings with surgical care, working from closets, basements, and attics to keep the cut-ins small and patchable.
Every rewire is permitted and inspected, and we coordinate around your life — phasing the work so you're never without power to the rooms you need, and protecting floors, plaster, and trim the whole way through. You end up with a safe, insurable, future-ready electrical system.
Will you tear up my walls?
Far less than you'd expect. We plan routes through accessible cavities and existing openings, make the smallest cuts possible, and leave clean, patch-ready holes. We don't do drywall finishing, but we'll gladly recommend a finisher.
Why does my insurer care about knob-and-tube?
It has no ground, degrades with age, and is easy to overload — all higher-risk traits. Replacing it often lowers your premium and, in many cases, is the only way to keep or get coverage.
Can we stay in the house during the work?
Almost always. We phase the project so essential rooms keep power, and we tidy up at the end of every day so you're not living in a job site.
General Electrical Services
From $150 service call
Not every job is a big project. We do the everyday electrical work that keeps a home running: replacing tired outlets and switches, adding GFCI protection in kitchens and baths, hanging light fixtures and ceiling fans, and chasing down that one circuit that keeps tripping for no obvious reason.
Working from home? We add dedicated circuits for offices, run power to workshops and garages, install whole-home surge protection, and put in hardwired smoke and CO detectors. Small jobs get the same written estimate and the same clean finish as the big ones.
Our flat service-call fee covers the trip and the diagnosis — and we apply it toward the repair when you give us the go-ahead. You'll always know the price before we pick up a tool.
Is there a minimum charge?
Our $150 service call covers showing up and diagnosing the issue. If you approve the repair, that fee goes toward the work, so you're not paying twice.
Can you come the same day?
Often, yes — same-day and next-day slots are usually available, and we offer 24/7 emergency service for anything that can't wait. Call or text and we'll find you a time.
